Miri’s Top Bathroom Checklist

Embarking on a bathroom renovation? Below are a few handy interior design tips to consider.

Hidden Toilet Cistern

A built-in toilet cistern has multiple advantages: it looks better aesthetically, gathers less dust and provides an additional shelf for storage/decorative display. Key is to make it easily accessible through the flush plate but also through a removable shelf on the top.

Shower Niche

Shower storage is crucial for keeping all our essentials handy. A stud wall is an easy place to include one, otherwise an additional built out wall will not only provide a space for the niche but also hide the shower valves. It's the perfect place for a fun tile & PIR lighting (which is highlighted in the next point). Just make sure the height and width of the niche is enough to fit your essentials - we recommend a 300mm height!

PIR Lighting

PIR (Passive Infra-Red) lighting will be activated when motion is detected. Usually, this is accompanied with a daylight sensor which allows the light to only be turned on after dark. This gives the space a soft glow and is not as harsh as overhead lighting. This especially looks fabulous in the niche (highlighting the feature tile) or when set back under vanities.

Hidden Storage

This is another must in the bathroom for a tidy, calm space. Most vanities provide a good level of storage but any awkward nooks could be filled with bespoke cupboards. Also, if a wall is being built out behind the shower - why not carry it across the entire wall to hide the cistern and include a built-in cabinet above?

Charging point

Quite a few LED mirrors will have one already included, but if that’s not the case, it’s worth adding a shaver/usb point. We like hiding ours in or under the vanity unit to avoid unsightly wires on show.
